Frankfurt

overcast 17 °C

I had a 9 hour layover before my next flight to Rio, so I decided to go to the city and waste sometime with Menna Abouzeid. I needed to take a bus and tram to get to her place; the bus part was easier but it took me 3 attempts to take the correct tram. Luckily I did not get onto the beer tram!! A tram-bar kind of thing that just goes around town carrying people drinking beer.....I assumed that this wouldn't get me anywhere (check the photos). I'm glad no one was checking the tickets on the tram........ was free riding :) The ticket machines were in German and impossible to use even though I tried and lost some money in the process.

When I got there, Menna, Saad (her husband) and their friends were watching the Wimbledon final via internet, connection was terrible and we basically did not see anything.

Meeting Nadia Drar there was a surprise, Nadia is a friend from AUB and daughter of Egypt's former ambassador to Lebanon; she's been living in Frankfurt since graduating from AUB.

Went out for lunch after the game with Menna and Saad, it was a slow Sunday. I expected the weather to be summer like, but it was more like Autumn with grey skies and 17 degrees. After lunch I took the subway back to the airport and boarded my 12 hr flight to Rio.
